How to Make Spanish Accents on a Dell Computer

Method 1 Method 1 of 3: Using Microsoft Office Shortcuts

Use keyboard shortcuts to type them in Microsoft Office for Windows.

  1. 1 For accented vowels: Press Ctrl+', then the vowel (Ctrl+'+a = á).
  2. 2 For Ñ: Press Ctrl+~, then the letter n (Ctrl+~+n = = ñ).
Method 2 Method 2 of 3: Using the ASCII Code
  1. 1 Make sure you have the right equipment. These will only work if you have a number keypad on your computer keyboard or and external USB keypad.
  2. 2 Type the right code. Each character in your computer has a code made up of pressing the ALT key then a three-digit number, all of which are listed below.
    • á = Alt+0225
    • é = Alt+00233
    • í = Alt+00237
    • ó = Alt+00243
    • ú = Alt+00250
    • ñ = Alt+00241
    • ü = Alt+00252
    • ¡ = Alt+00161
    • ¿ = Alt+00191
Method 3 Method 3 of 3: Using the Character Map
  • If you are not using Microsoft Office, then you must use the character map to copy the letters.
  1. 1 Open Character Map by clicking the Start button.
  2. 2 In the search box, type Character Map.
  3. 3 In the list of results, click Character Map.
  4. 4 Click the Font list, and then click the font you want to use.
  5. 5 Click the special character you want to insert into the document.
  6. 6 Click Select, and then click Copy.
  7. 7 Open your document and click the location in the document where you want the special character to appear.
  8. 8 Click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.
